The Community Business Fund is now closed and will reopen in 2018. Find out if you are eligible.

Through the fund, we will award grants between £50,000 – £300,000 to community businesses in England.

Watch our webinar ‘How to write a strong application’.

Can you apply?

Before you apply, read our guidance for applicants which can help you:

  • Assess if you meet the 11 criteria for a Community Business Fund grant.
  • Prepare your answers and evidence by reading the application form questions and tips on how to answer them beforehand.

Take a look at our community business and ‘Am I suitable for funding?‘ pages to find out more about our definition of community business. You can also read about the projects we’ve funded and find out about other support and resources for community businesses.

Things to think about

If you are thinking about applying, these are some things to consider:

  • We expect the process to be highly competitive. Last year we were able to fund just 5% of the applications we received.
  • There will be future funding rounds of the Community Business Fund. We expect to allocate funding broadly equally across rounds, so choosing to apply for a later funding round will not reduce an applicant’s chance of receiving a funding.
  • We will rarely fund alone. For example, we will usually fund a maximum of 75% of the total costs of buying or renovating a building.
  • In previous funding rounds, over two-thirds of applications were rejected because they didn’t meet our definition of a community business. You can find out more about our definition of a community business on our ‘Am I suitable for funding?’ page.
