Currently, there are 11.3 million adults in the UK lacking one or more basic digital skills. To address this, Good Things Foundation is looking for community businesses to join the movement with the support of Power to Change.

Good Things Foundation is a social change charity that supports people to improve their lives through digital. They have created The Online Centres Network – a network of thousands of organisations and businesses doing work in their communities with different groups of people who are facing digital challenges and social inclusion.

It is completely free to join, and it means that your organisation will have the opportunity to:

  • Apply for funding from Good Things Foundation exclusively for Online Centres members
  • Access a comprehensive training programme delivered via webinar and face-to-face events
  • Take part in international campaigns, such as Get Online Week

Food and Education Enterprise in Derby, a Trade Up grantee, has been a member of the network since 2014, as Ali Neghipooran explains: “We became a member of the Online Centres in 2014 and since then we have worked with the Good Things Foundation to deliver digital courses amongst the most disadvantaged groups including unemployed, homeless, and refugees and isolated BAME women within the Derby area.

“We have really benefited from the support we have received from the Good Things Foundation and we have always said that without their support we would not exist now.”

Joining the network also allows admin access to Learn My Way, a free, online digital learning resource which also includes a wide variety of modules that cover the basics of computer use, from job searching to accessing health resources online.

Good Things Foundation is also working with Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, on a project called Make It Click – a collection of free online learning resources, tools and templates as well as face-to-face support to help people build on their digital skills.

Make It Click has already launched in Sunderland and Portsmouth, alongside Good Things Foundation’s delivery of Google Digital Garages and the Google Bus in those areas, with the aim of even more Online Centres deploying resources from Make It Click.
