About the research
We know that community business is a driving force for local pride and regeneration. They make good things happen where people live and can be a source of hope that things are getting better.
One year on from the General Election, the government has taken steps to embrace community power but too often change is not yet being felt in people’s everyday lives, with visible decline in our neighbourhoods and towns driving alienation with politics and institutions, and making language about growth ring hollow.
Ahead of the autumn political party conferences, we commissioned new polling by More in Common on what the public thinks of community empowerment policy.
Combining new polling and messages from community businesses to government on the eve of the Labour Party conference, ‘Returning power to the people’ demonstrates the need to put communities at the heart of the political debate to unlock a path to national renewal.
