{"id":10056,"date":"2018-11-30T14:28:36","date_gmt":"2018-11-30T14:28:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.powertochange.org.uk\/?post_type=blog_post&#038;p=10056"},"modified":"2021-07-30T15:44:23","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T14:44:23","slug":"ms-community-business-challenge-film","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.powertochange.org.uk\/news\/ms-community-business-challenge-film\/","title":{"rendered":"M&#038;S Community Business Challenge Liverpool film"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.marksandspencer.com\/\">Marks &amp; Spencer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.powertochange.org.uk\/\">Power to Change<\/a> are working together to support community businesses to transform local economies by with an innovative new project: The Community Business Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>This film gives a flavour of our first flagship event in Liverpool, where seven finalist community businesses\u00a0showcased their work to a prestigious judging panel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IUE-lRKvrMo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>All seven finalists won receive a package of \u00a310,000 funding and business support:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>TARGET Football<\/strong> in Toxteth will expand the Stany Fields sports centre so that it reaches more people, offers more sporting activities, and benefits the community for years to come.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Rotunda<\/strong> in Kirkdale will be developing a garden bistro, complete with a new healthy menu, staff training and a new external event catering service.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lister Steps<\/strong>, which provides affordable childcare in Tuebrook, use their win to create a skills and education programme, community gardens and a caf\u00e9.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kitty\u2019s Laundrette<\/strong> in Anfield will use their funds and support to develop their business operations in preparation for their launch in the new year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>HomeGrown Collective<\/strong>, which delivers horticulture training in Anfield, will be exploring and developing innovative new food and drinks projects with the expertise of M&amp;S staff.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Homebaked<\/strong>, a community bakery in Anfield, will create a new production facility, freeing up the bakery for training and courses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Florrie<\/strong>, a community heritage venue in Dingle, will hire a chef to create a tasty, affordable menu for their community caf\u00e9.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Community Business Challenge was piloted in the Liverpool City Region in 2018, as part of M&amp;S\u2019s Community Transformation Programme. The retailer is currently trialing a range of actions in Liverpool to help tackle the issues that matter most to communities \u2013 such as unemployment, skill shortages, loneliness, mental health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Want to know more about the M&#038;S Community Business Challenge?
