Ailbhe joined Power to Change in July 2016. She helped to establish and grow the Power to Change Research Institute, creating the substantial evidence base that underpins our policy and advocacy work on behalf of the community business sector.
As Director of Policy and Communications, her role is to make the case for community businesses and the policy change needed to support them. She leads engagement with central, regional and local government to create more supportive environments for community businesses.
Ailbhe has 20 years’ experience in policy development, research and analysis, having started her career in management consultancy at Accenture. She went on to join the team evaluating policy implementation at the UK National Audit Office, and has held a number of consultancy role in central government departments. More recently, she worked in a number of research and policy roles in the creative and cultural sector, at the Museums, Libraries and Archives Councils (now part of Arts Council England) and the UK Design Council.
Ailbhe is also a Co-Chair of the Social Research Association, a charity and membership organisation that aims to improve the social research profession.
“The people involved in community businesses can achieve great things, and we can support them by equipping them with knowledge and helping them to make the right connections. I’m interested in helping community businesses, and their supporters and funders, to understand local need, identify best practice, and build a shared understanding of what success looks like.”
