Government plans will struggle without local expertise, argues independent trust Power to Change

Richard Harries, Director of Research at Power to Change, said:

‘Britain struggles with significant regional inequality. Any ambition to close this gap is welcome – but the Prime Minister must deliver on her promise to create the right local conditions for success. Another plan imposed from the centre at Whitehall won’t cut it.

‘The government must now listen to what communities tell them about what’s needed to rebuild their local economics.

‘A range of local organisations should be in the mix guiding the industrial strategy, from corporate companies and social enterprises to the growing world of community businesses. No one knows their communities better than the people who live and work there, and they should be at the heart of future work’.
